TIGER’S EYE PARTNERSHIP
TIGERS EYE - our partner in performance
Tigers Eye has become the largest single donor to Khumbulani Craft and our mother organization, the Siyazisiza Trust, having contributed almost
R50 million since 1999.
Tigers Eye is southern Africa’s largest retailer of African souvenirs, curios and crafts. The organization operates a chain of some 60 stores in key tourist destinations including international airports, National Parks and major shopping precincts.
Their long-standing commitment and very considerable support enables Khumbulani Craft and the Siyazisiza Trust to provide vital support to more than 3 000 rural people at any one time – both in food security and craft development. Our partnership with Tigers Eye not only facilitates the provision of services, they also provide vital retail outlets for the sale of our products. In addition, Tigers Eye applies fair trade principles in all its dealings with the crafters through Khumbulani.
It’s all about working together! Regular briefings between Khumbulani and the team at Tigers Eye ensures a productive exchange of ideas. The collaboration and insights gained into buying trends provides the impetus for new product development and creative ideas to improve quality and production techniques.
Without the interventions of this partnership, hundreds of crafters would simply not be able to enter the craft industry, let alone have their products included for sale at leading outlets throughout the country.
Annually, Khumbulani Craft and Tigers Eye invite selected crafters to participate in various exhibitions. The experience provides valuable insight for our crafters, enabling them to better understand the retail environment their products compete in and issues around quality and pricing, etc.
With our strong culture of crafting traditions, South Africa’s rural craftsmen and women are taking their rightful place in the international trade in cultural products.
We record our very sincere appreciation and applaud Tigers Eye for an exceptional contribution to enterprise and social economic development.
